The time you dedicate is going to depend on what type of business you want to operate. That will also dictate your start up costs. Most turn-key based business will require some kind of initial investment on your part, some as little as $500, others as much as $10,000. The ones with the most successful ratio run somewhere in the $2-$5,000 range.

My older brother started his own cleaning business five years ago with an initial investment of $8,000 for equipment, supplies and transportation and in about a year was able to turn a profit and, more importantly, has been able to stay in business.

There are several opportunities to get your own business going, however, the easiest is probably a franchise or a unique business that does not yet exist in your area. Check out the links I posted for a few of these ideas.
