Say...there's a job opening in a Big name financial planner's office.
Say...the person being interviewed before you has an MBA from Simon Business School or Wharton Business School...

WHO will the personnel director hire??

Consider your background, check and recheck your competition.

Kinda tough, A lot of hedge funds will hire folks with little experience in the industry, but the jobs usually are really tough. Long hours, little pay and the better you do the job the more likely they will keep you in the position as long as possible. You may want to try to become a financial adviser for a company that is willing to train you and get you the required licenses for other jobs in the financial industry (Series 7 and 63) American Express has a program for this. Stay for about 2 years and then start looking at hedge funds. It will be easier and you will get a better position (most likely) then if you just started right at the Hedge fund without the experience and licensing. Good Luck
